What is a Stamp Duty Calculator?

Stamp duty is a state tax on property transactions, and registration charges are the fee for recording the sale deed in government records. Together they usually add 5–10% to the price of a home, depending on the state, and must be paid before the property is registered in the buyer’s name.

Rates differ widely between states, and many states charge women buyers a lower stamp duty. Duty is usually calculated on the higher of the agreement value and the government’s circle rate (ready reckoner rate). This stamp duty calculator uses typical rates for major states that you can edit.

How does the Stamp Duty Calculator work?

Choosing a state and buyer type fills in typical stamp duty and registration rates, plus any registration cap. The calculator multiplies the property value by each rate, applies the cap, and adds them up.

Because states revise rates and some add cess, metro surcharge or local body charges, the rates stay editable.

Stamp duty = Value × Stamp duty rateRegistration = min(Value × Registration rate, Cap). Total = Stamp duty + Registration.
