This goal planner works backwards from a goal, such as a child’s education, a wedding, a car or a home down payment, to the monthly SIP you need. Enter what the goal costs today and when you need the money. It inflates the cost, counts the savings you already have, and shows the monthly SIP or the one-time investment needed today.

Please note: results are estimates for planning and learning. They are not investment, tax or legal advice. Returns on market-linked products are not guaranteed, and rates set by the government or your bank can change. Check the latest figures with the official source or a SEBI-registered adviser before you decide.

What is a Goal Planner Calculator?

Goal-based investing means saving for specific things you want, each with its own amount and deadline, rather than just saving in general. Common goals include a child’s education, a wedding, a home down payment, a car or a big trip.

A goal planner turns a goal into a monthly plan. It adjusts today’s cost for inflation, counts what you have already saved and works out the SIP that will fill the rest by the deadline. It can also show the lump sum you would need to invest today instead.

How does the Goal Planner Calculator work?

The calculator grows the goal’s cost at the inflation rate you choose and grows your existing savings at the expected return. The difference is the gap.

It then searches for the monthly SIP whose future value equals the gap, including any yearly step-up, and also works out the single amount needed today.

SIP = Gap ÷ ([((1 + i)n − 1) ÷ i] × (1 + i))Gap = Cost × (1 + inflation)years − Savings × (1 + return)years. i is the monthly return and n the number of months. With a step-up, the SIP is solved numerically.

How to use the Goal Planner Calculator step by step

  1. Pick the goal.
  2. Enter what it costs today.
  3. Enter the years until you need it.
  4. Set the inflation for this goal and the expected return.
  5. Add savings already set aside and an optional step-up.
  6. Read the monthly SIP and the lump-sum alternative.

Goal Planner Calculator FAQs

How much SIP do I need for ₹1 crore?

At 12% a year, about ₹10,000 a month for 20 years, ₹20,000 for 15 years or ₹43,000 for 10 years. Change the inputs above for your own goal.

How do I plan for my child's education cost?

Estimate today’s cost, apply education inflation of 8–10%, subtract what you have saved and start a SIP for the gap. Review it every year.

How do I account for inflation in goals?

Grow today’s cost by (1 + inflation) for each year until the goal. The calculator does this automatically.

Which investment suits short-term goals?

For goals under 3 years, FDs, RDs, liquid or short-duration debt funds are safer than equity.

Should I use one SIP for all goals?

Separate SIPs make it easier to track progress and choose the right risk level for each deadline.

What if I cannot afford the full SIP?

Start smaller with a yearly step-up, extend the deadline or reduce the goal amount.
