What is a Dividend Yield Calculator?

Dividend yield is the yearly dividend a company pays per share, expressed as a percentage of the share’s current price. If a ₹1,450 share pays ₹58 a year, its yield is 4%. It tells income investors how much cash a stock returns, separate from any change in its price.

A dividend yield calculator also turns the yield into rupees for your own holding and shows yield on cost, which is the dividend as a percentage of what you originally paid. Long-term holders of growing dividend payers often see a high yield on cost even when the current yield looks modest.

How does the Dividend Yield Calculator work?

The calculator divides the dividend per share by the current price for the yield, and multiplies the dividend by your shares for your yearly income. Yield on cost uses your average purchase price instead.

It also checks the TDS rule: a company deducts 10% TDS from dividends to a resident shareholder with PAN if the total paid by that company in a financial year exceeds ₹10,000.

Dividend yield = Dividend per share ÷ Share price × 100Yearly income = Dividend per share × Number of shares. Yield on cost = Dividend per share ÷ Average buy price × 100.
