This bond yield calculator works out the real return on a bond or NCD. Enter the face value, the price you pay, the coupon rate, how often interest is paid and the years to maturity. It shows the current yield and the yield to maturity (YTM), which accounts for buying at a discount or premium, plus the total cash you will receive.

Please note: results are estimates for planning and learning. They are not investment, tax or legal advice. Returns on market-linked products are not guaranteed, and rates set by the government or your bank can change. Check the latest figures with the official source or a SEBI-registered adviser before you decide.

What is a Bond Yield Calculator?

A bond is a loan to a government or company that pays fixed interest, the coupon, and returns the face value at maturity. Bonds trade in the market, so you may pay more or less than face value. That changes your actual return.

Current yield is simply the yearly coupon divided by the price. Yield to maturity (YTM) is the full return if you hold to maturity, including the gain or loss from the price difference. It is the best single number for comparing bonds, NCDs and FDs. This bond yield calculator works out both.

How does the Bond Yield Calculator work?

The calculator lists every coupon payment and the final face value, then searches for the yield at which their present value equals the price you pay. That yield, expressed yearly, is the YTM. Current yield is the yearly coupon divided by the price.

Price = Σ C ÷ (1 + y/f)k + Face ÷ (1 + y/f)nC is the coupon per period, f the payments per year, n the total payments and y the YTM. Current yield = Yearly coupon ÷ Price.

How to use the Bond Yield Calculator step by step

  1. Enter the face value.
  2. Enter the price you pay.
  3. Enter the coupon rate and payment frequency.
  4. Enter the years to maturity.
  5. Optionally enter the number of bonds.
  6. Compare YTM with other investments.
